About The Forbidden City Project

Welcome to TheForbiddenCity.org, a dedicated digital archive and educational resource exploring the history, architecture, and cultural legacy of Beijing’s Imperial Palace.

"Our mission is to bridge the gap between ancient history and modern education, providing accessible, high-quality resources for students, teachers, and history enthusiasts worldwide."

A Two-Decade Legacy

2006: The site was launched as a digital guide for travelers and history lovers wanting to understand the complex layout of the Palace Museum.
2016: We expanded our archives to include detailed deep-dives into the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
2026: Today, the project has evolved into a specialized Educational Hub, focusing on Grade 6/7 history curriculum and ESL (English as a Second Language) support.

Why We Focus on Education

History is most powerful when it is understood by the next generation. We believe that the Forbidden City is a perfect "living classroom" to teach concepts of Architecture, Governance, Philosophy, and Art. By simplifying complex historical protocols into engaging guides and interactive quizzes, we help students develop a deeper appreciation for Chinese heritage.

Our Content Standards

Every article on this site is carefully researched to ensure historical accuracy while maintaining a vocabulary level appropriate for intermediate learners. We prioritize:

Clarity: Breaking down complex imperial systems.

Visual Learning: Using diagrams and photography to explain architectural secrets.

Academic Growth: Providing bolded vocabulary terms to help students improve their English proficiency.
